Klus-Grove Fever Rowdy Tops 2018 Fall Harvest Sale

Holstein enthusiasts from all over Minnesota and surrounding states filled the bleachers at the McLeod County Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Minn., on Saturday, November 17, 2018. Although our industry is amidst a time of hardship, the quality of cattle that filled the sale line-up provided a feeling of optimism and appreciation for the Holstein cow. At the sale,100 lots of cows and heifers were auctioned off. In addition, 12 semen lots were sold and three embryo lots. The sale averaged $1,269 on the 100 lots. The cows averaged $1,415, the bred heifers averaged $1,145 and the open heifers averaged $1,007.

After being raised to an EX-90 classification score at 3-05 a few days earlier, the high-seller of the day was Lot 127, Klus-Grove Fever Rowdy. She was consigned by Gregg Klusmann, Klus-Grove Dairy, New Salem, N.D., and she was purchased by Matt Timmer, Mat-Ar-Dor Holsteins, Ellsworth, Minn., for $3,850. The second highest-seller was Lot 10, Circle-Drive AS Gwen, consigned by Tim Albrecht, Circle Drive Holsteins of Hutchinson, Minn. Gwen was purchased by Peter Laveau, Laveau Dairy, Wrenshall, Minn., for $2,550.

Another highlight of the sale was the sale of Lot 2, Larcrest Chandana-ET. She was consigned by Jon Larson, Larcrest Dairy, Albert Lea, Minn. , and she was purchased by Shawn Hollermann, Hollermann Family Dairy, Burtrum, Minn., for $1,450. Larcrest Dairy chose to generously donate the proceeds of the heifer back to the Minnesota Holstein Association.

The raffle grand prize winner was Tyson Sonneburg. He chose the $2,000 cash prize. Other winners included Jacob & Tracy Schaefer, Spencer Hackett, Kris Gruenes, Sue Steinhagen, Leif Annexstad, Luke Olson, Amanda Bedtke, Tom Murphy, and Hunter Nodsle. Thank you to Kris Gruenes and the raffle committee for coordinating the raffle this year. Proceeds from the raffle will go towards the Minnesota Junior Holstein Association.

Several people were involved in making this day possible. Our sale chair Tracy Schaefer and co-chairs Matt Timmer and Ted Norling as well as MHA staff led the behind-the-scenes work to put on this sale. However, the sale would not have been possible without our consignors who offered their highest quality cattle and the buyers who saw the opportunity to take these quality animals home. Thank you again for your contributions to the sale. In addition, we appreciate all of the effort of the selectors, sale staff, and fitting crew led by Pat Hereen. Furthermore, members of the Minnesota Junior Holstein Association displayed the cattle as the leadsmen for the sale and members of the McLeod County Junior Holstein club managed the lunch stand for the day. Again, thank you to everyone who participated and supported the 2018 Fall Harvest Sale.
